Unveiled behind the scenes in 2001 at Baselworld by its creator the Richard Mille 001 was an immediate success. Intended to change the tourbillion from a fragile organ only to be wore on special occasions into a functional complication the 001 was designed to withstand normal daily use. While presenting to his future retailers and partners Richard Mille threw his 001 onto the ground behind the scenes at Baselworld to show how after 3 years of development this tourbillion calibre was truly unique. The architecture of the movement has been designed for optimal maintenance and extreme shock resistance to mitigate the effect normal wear might have on the tourbillion. The case and its mounting were conceived simultaneously and thus removes the need for a case mounting. This design was unique at the time and set the scene for Richard Mille to become a leader of innovation in the watch-making industry which it continues to prove that it is. Limited only 17 pieces and the price probably a lot.
